Arthur Daemmrich co-authored with Robert Cook-Deegan “Still Lost at the Frontier,” a response in Boston Review’s forum “How to Save Science.” Daemmrich and Cook-Deegan examine the political foundations of U.S. science policy and argue for institutions that balance scientific autonomy with public accountability. The essay considers how public science can remain responsive to elected officials and citizens while preserving researchers’ ability to pursue knowledge.

The biannual Green Devil Ambassador Sustainability Conference equips ASU staff, faculty and working learners with knowledge, skills and connections to advance sustainability in their roles. This fall's conference features a behind-the-scenes look at ASU's next-generation sustainability aspirations, with university leaders and sustainability experts, practical solutions and opportunities to connect with colleagues. Starbucks is seeking new materials for cold cups and lids, with a focus on solutions that are plastic-free, compostable, and transparent. Successful proposals should integrate functional performance, customer experience and regulatory needs, with potential for testing, refinement, and global scale. A $4,200 Principled Innovation grant supported Engineering Trust Under Scale: A Space Governance Lab Workshop, that prepared doctoral, masters and undergraduate students to present at the 2026 Governance of Emerging Technologies and Science (GETS) conference with ASU Law in May 2026.

Jeffrey Wilson, professor of statistics and biostatistics and associate dean in the W. P. Carey School of Business, has been named a 2026 fellow of the association, one of the statistics profession’s highest honors.

Stephanie Arcusa is lead author in new publication in the International Journal of Greenhouse Gas Control. The study examines whether policies in Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah can support the long-term diffusion of carbon disposal technologies. The study finds that deployment is supported, but sustained financing and accountability remain gaps.
