Rodriguez-Fransen launches book, Education and Decolonial Futures in the Philippines, in honor of Filipino-American History month

Bea Rodriguez-Fransen, Assistant Research Professor in Principled Innovation, Julie Ann Wrigley Global Futures Laboratory, is lead author on Education and Decolonial Futures in the Philippines: Perspectives for Educators and Practitioners, a new publication from Palgrave Macmillan.

Says Rodriguez-Fransen: "I’m excited to celebrate the launch during Filipino-American History Month and to spark ideas and collaborations that focus on relationality and sustainability."

To help celebrate Filipino American History Month, Bea Rodriguez-Fransen is hosting a book launch event on Thursday, October 9, 2025, featuring the traditional Filipino dance, tinikling, performed by Philippine American Student Association at ASU. Attendees will enjoy charcuterie and refreshments, an author talk and signing, and knowledge of two practical frameworks that any educator or practitioner can use in the classroom or research, or to co-design futures of learning that emphasize storytelling, imagination, and ethical collaboration.

About the book:

“Education and Decolonial Futures in the Philippines: Perspectives for Educators and Practitioners" weaves personal and historical narratives, diverse theoretical frameworks, and future thinking. Using critical bricolage methodology and the Indigenous method of pakikipagkuwentuhan (storytelling), Rodriguez-Fransen amplifies the voices of Filipina educators as they re-conceptualize colonial mentality as a systemic rather than individual problem. Bridging theory and practice, the book offers new teaching and research tools for scholars and practitioners worldwide. Rodriguez-Fransen takes readers on a journey through time, revealing the interconnectedness of past, present, and future, and calls for transdisciplinary, cross-sector, and cross-country collaborations to decolonize education and our shared futures.

Reviews praise Bea’s book for its rich storytelling, diverse perspectives, and its practical and conceptual tools for liberation, inspiring global collaboration in reimagining education and justice.
