The ASU
Center for Biodiversity Outcomes has recently joined other ASU units to launch a five-year collaborative research initiative in partnership with the
Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute in Panama.
This new ASU-STRI effort follows a successful earlier partnership that finished in 2015. The new partnership aims to cultivate a shared research agenda to understand and manage human and ecological systems in the tropics and to train the next generation of tropical scientists. Specific research foci include:
- Resilience, adaptive evolution and the effects of changing environments on plant, animal and microbial phenotypes, as well as community and ecosystem functions.
- Integrating biological data with socio-economic models to sustain biodiversity during climate change and human development.
To support these programmatic goals and research foci, we are accepting internal proposals for:
- Team building visits (up to $3-4K, for travel and lodging expenses)
- Workshops (up to $20K, for expenses to convene at ASU or STRI)
- Pilot data collection projects (up to 1 year to support grant proposals, budget up to $50K/year)
