The Institute for Advanced Study School of Social Science Residential Fellowships are now accepting applications for the 2027–28 academic year. The program brings approximately 20 scholars to Princeton each year for a full-time residential fellowship, with about half of the cohort working on the annual theme and the remainder pursuing independent research projects.
Applications are welcome from junior and senior scholars across the social sciences and related fields. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. (or equivalent scholarly credential) by the application deadline. Fellows are expected to reside at the Institute for the academic year (September through May) and participate in the School's intellectual community, including weekly seminars.
The Institute provides office space, library access, campus resources, and a negotiated stipend. Stipends are coordinated with the fellow's home institution and are capped at $80,000, with additional research and relocation support available in some cases.
