The Michigan Science, Technology, and Public Policy (MiST) Fellowship is accepting applications for its inaugural fellowship cohort. Managed by the Science, Technology, and Public Policy (STPP) program, MiST places STEM PhD graduates in Michigan state government to provide evidence-based expertise on science and technology policy.
The current opening is for a fellow with expertise in artificial intelligence (AI) to serve for one year at the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) in Lansing. The fellow will work directly with state policymakers on AI-related policy research, with the possibility of a second year contingent on funding.
MiST joins a growing network of state science and technology policy fellowship programs that connect researchers with legislative and executive offices to strengthen evidence-informed policymaking.
The application period is open July 16–Aug. 9, 2026.
