Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (Regeneron ISEF) is coming to Phoenix, Arizona!
The Regeneron ISEF event week will be held from May 9-15, 2026, at the Phoenix Convention Center.
ASU is the university sponsor.
Seeking ASU students, staff, and faculty to volunteer to serve as interpreters.
ASU will support student finalists on the competition's judging day on Wednesday, May 13.
As an interpreter at Regeneron ISEF, the role involves bridging communication gaps between non-English-speaking finalists and judges. During the competition’s judging day on Wednesday, May 13, judges conduct 15-minute interviews with finalists, and interpreters facilitate these conversations. Technical expertise in the finalist’s subject area is not required; time is provided on the day of the event to review the project board and speak with the finalist, and many technical terms are already in English or have widely accepted equivalents.
Ideally, interpreters are available for the full day, approximately 6:30 AM to 4 PM. While the schedule is lengthy, it includes breakfast (an opportunity to meet the finalist and discuss the project), lunch, and downtime between interviews. Spending the full day with a finalist allows for greater familiarity with the project and more effective interpretation. However, partial-day availability is also welcome, with preferred shifts of either 6:30 AM – 12 PM or 12 PM – 4 PM.
Interpreter needs are based fully upon requests from the student finalists. As of early April 2026, interpreters are needed in:
- Cantonese
- Mandarin
- Turkish
- Thai
- Portuguese
- Korean
- Vietnamese
To register, create an account in the Volunteer Portal (select "interpreter" for the first question) and add shifts for the supported language. For those able to support multiple languages, select one language during registration, and email [email protected] to indicate additional languages spoken.
