2026 Doctoral Student Workshop on Climate and Energy Decision Making

The Department of Engineering and Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University, invites PhD students and postdoctoral fellows to apply to present their research at a 2-day workshop on climate, energy systems, and decision making, to be held May 13–14, 2026, on the CMU campus in Pittsburgh.

Addressing today’s climate and energy challenges requires combining rigorous natural science and engineering analysis with insights from behavioral social science and policy, legal, and regulatory analysis. This workshop brings together early-career researchers working at this interdisciplinary interface.

Past student presentation topics include:

  • Electricity systems, grid planning, and energy infrastructure
  • Renewable energy and energy storage technologies
  • Transportation electrification and EV infrastructure
  • Environmental, health, and equity impacts of energy systems
  • Climate and energy policy, regulation, and governance

Selected participants will:

  • Present their research
  • Participate in faculty-led discussions
  • Connect with peers from across disciplines
  • Exchange ideas on complex climate and energy decision-making problems

Limited travel support may be available, though demand has exceeded available funds in prior years. Early applications are strongly encouraged.

Application deadline: March 13, 2026
