Sally Kitch, Regents and University Professor in the School of Social Transformation, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, is principal investigator on Create the Change, funded through the president's strategic initiative fund.
Create the Change was designed to respond to moral, economic, and social challenges; we are building a human sciences action and accountability framework. This program mobilizes the social sciences and humanities in conjunction with sustainability science to address the complexities of securing a healthy planet in which thriving, equitable human societies are aligned with Earth’s biosystems.
"Our planet’s health faces multiple, multifaceted challenges. Moral, economic and cultural concerns often elude material or technological solutions, and environmental stressors are complicated by power struggles, entrenched interests and destructive disinformation," says Kitch. "These complexities make it harder to understand and address the underlying causes of instability and conflict that threaten planetary health. Engaging all disciplines, especially the social sciences and humanities, is a critical step in creating solutions."
