The role of academia in addressing the biodiversity crisis

As a visiting fellow at Oxford's Martin School, CBO Director Leah Gerber joined Dr. Tim Coulson and Dr. EJ Milner-Gulland in a discussion with students and faculty about the role of academia in addressing the biodiversity crisis. In this open session, they discussed foundational theory, the importance of action-oriented research from academics, and reflected on how research can have meaningful impacts.

They highlighted the importance of building trust, relationships, and networks to achieving outcomes, and that conservation is more than just isolated research for discovery. This was part of a larger discussion around how to achieve effective conservation action, which aligns with CBO's strategic goal of establishing a model for effective conservation action.
