Rebecca Snyder, a PhD student in the Conservation Innovation Lab, recently co-authored on a paper published in Frontiers in Environmental Science. The publication highlights assisted adaptation as a promising approach to help species and ecosystems cope with rapid environmental change. Strategies include helping organisms acclimate, supporting range shifts, and enhancing genetic diversity to boost resilience. While offering hope for conservation, these interventions must be applied carefully to avoid unintended ecological impacts.
This paper is the product of a working group that formed during ICCB 2019 in Kuala Lumpur to study how the field of conservation can better grapple with the effects of climate change.
