Leah Gerber, Chris Barton, and Derrick Anderson published a paper in Conservation Biology on the misalignment that occurs between the logic of inquiry which guides scientists and the logic of action (which guides conservation practitioners. The paper calls for the development of a National Biodiversity Strategy to help bridge this gap in knowledge production for better and more actionable science.

This paper makes explicit why biodiversity loss is a public values issue, it identifies why most diagnoses of the communication failures between scientists and practitioners are flawed (and provide an alternative, the 'logic synchronization' model), and proposes a policy solution, and answers some of the practical questions as to how this issue might be overcome.
