PHOENIX (June 13, 2011) – Valley Forward Association is now accepting nominations for its 31st annual Environmental Excellence Awards program, Arizona’s oldest and largest competition of its kind. The event – known as the Academy Awards of the local environmental community – is presented in partnership with SRP and recognizes significant contributions to the sustainability of our region.
Nominations will be accepted through 4 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, in the following broad‐based categories:
- Buildings and Structures
- Livable Communities
- Site Development and Landscape
- Art in Public Places
- Environmental Technologies
- Environmental Education/Communication
- Environmental Stewardship (SRP Award)
First‐place winners in each of the 22 subcategories will receive the Crescordia award, named for the Greek term meaning "to grow in harmony." Valley Forward will also confer its most prestigious honor, the President’s Award, on an individual or organization that has had an exceptional impact on the environmental quality of the Valley. In addition, a maximum of two awards of merit per category may be presented.
Recipients will be announced at Valley Forward’s Environmental Excellence Awards gala on Saturday, September 17, 2011, at The Westin Kierland. More than 600 business and civic leaders are expected to attend. The organization will unveil a new design for its Crescordia award and commemorate SRP’s tenth year as presenting partner.
"This program spotlights distinguished projects throughout the Valley that demonstrate a high level of environmental commitment and contribute to the region’s overall sustainability," said Diane Brossart, president of Valley Forward. "The awards set standards for achieving a balance between the built and natural environment, impacting the physical, technical, social and aesthetic development of our metropolitan area."
Add 1/ Environmental Excellence Awards Valley Forward’s Environmental Excellence Awards are highly sought by companies both large and small, government agencies, cities and towns, design professionals, educators, media representatives, artists, technicians and others. Finalist will be notified prior to the gala; however, specific awards will not be announced until that evening. All winners will be asked to prepare a presentation board featuring their project, which will be displayed at the awards banquet and included in a museum‐quality traveling exhibit.
